Smartmeters
Your Utility Bill Will "Necessarily Skyrocket"
|
February
15, 2011 Hello Friend Since
stopping SmartMeters is highly unlikely I figured I would take a minute and
try to broaden my knowledge regarding what I can anticipate once the new
technology becomes part of my life. Here
is some information I found helpful. “Writing
in Friday’s issue of the Journal
Science, the environmental scientist Jan Beyea foresees a world in which
epidemiologists could harvest data on how people live from day to day — their
use of electric blankets or microwave ovens, for example — and correlate such
activities with the likelihood of developing certain health conditions. The
meter data could serve as a check on information obtained from the
questionnaires that are used in such studies, he said. With
data from thousands or millions of smart meters, researchers could design
tools to measure how many times a day a refrigerator door was opened,
relevant to dietary and obesity research, or sleep patterns, relevant to a
wide range of health research, he wrote. The
smart meters obviously raise privacy concerns. So he proposes “de-identified”
data grouped by census tract. May 20, 2010” HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS: “Z-wave
is a proprietary wireless communications protocol designed for home automation,
specifically to remote control applications in residential and light
commercial environments. The technology uses a low-power RF radio embedded or
retrofitted into home electronics devices and systems, such as lighting, home
access control, entertainment systems and household appliances. The
z-wave alliance is an international consortium of manufacturers that provide
interoperable z-wave enabled devices. Range:
approximately 100 feet (or 30 meters) assuming "open air"
conditions, with reduced range indoors depending on building materials, etc. Frequency
band: the z-wave radio uses the 900 MHz ism band: 908.42 MHz (United States);
868.42 MHz (Europe); 919.82 MHz (Hong Kong); 921.42 MHz (Australia/New
Zealand). U.S. legislation imposes a 1 mw transmission power limit.” Wikipedia OPINIONS: “Right now, smartness has virtually no
benefit to average Americans — or to their utilities. “Smart meters” — which
help control these devices — are not present in most households, though
millions are on their way. “It’s
kind of the chicken or egg,” said Mr. Nolan. “The first thing that’s rolling
out is these meters, but we’re going to have to follow very quickly with
appliances.” Even
when smart meters and smart appliances arrive, however, a third step —
changing the way electricity is priced — remains to be taken before the
new-style appliances can be truly useful. Right now, most homeowners in
America pay essentially the same hour-after-hour price for electricity,
whether it is 4 p.m. (when the grid is strained) or 4 a.m. (when the lights
are off and there is little demand on the system). There
is no monetary incentive to program the water heater to go into energy-saving
mode at 4 p.m., in other words — so the “smartness” has no immediate purpose. But
G.E. is thinking longer-term, anticipating a time when smart-grid projects
are further advanced. The company already makes a host of other smart
appliances, including microwaves and dryers, but these are available only for
pilot projects in Louisville, KY., and elsewhere. However,
Mr. Nolan predicted that more smart devices would become commercially
available by 2012, as the grid evolves. “Things are going to move very, very
quickly,” he said.” N.Y.Times 2009 “For most utilities, electricity
demand peaks between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., when people come home from work, cook
dinner, wash clothes, run the dishwasher, charge up their mobile phones, and
flick on their big-screen televisions. During
the summer they crank up their air conditioners, which is why utilities like California’s
PG&E have spent billions of dollars building natural gas
"peaker" power plants that sit idle most of the time except when a
heat wave hits. Of
course, you, dear consumer, could care less because you pay the same flat
electricity rate regardless of what it costs the utility to meet peak demand.
But not for too much longer. Smart electricity meters and the interactive
power grid will allow utilities to impose variable or time-of-day pricing,
which means it's going to get pricey to run the washing machine at 5 p.m.
when you realize you have no clean clothes for work tomorrow. Hence
the roombaization of the dumb dishwasher. If you turn on your oven to cook a
meal when electricity rates are high, your stove will literally tell your
refrigerator to delay defrosting or adjust its temperature until dinner is
served. Likewise, the washing machine will send a signal wirelessly or
through the home's power lines to the dishwasher to switch on after the
clothes are cleaned. "When
consumers buy a new fridge they'll make a phone call or go online and
register their new appliance with the grid," says tendril's tuck.
"If they do that, the appliance will start to receive pricing
information and download algorithms to modify its behavior." "In
California, which looks like it's going to have high peak rates, the savings
could be substantial," he notes.”
grist.org/article 13 July 2009 THE REAL ISSUE DRIVING SMARTMETERS: “Obama’s
plan ‘necessarily’ skyrockets energy bills Imagine
you send your children to a private school, for which you as parents scrimp
and save so you can afford to give them as good an education as possible. Dad
takes a second job and Mom runs a home business to make it work, because the
kids’ test results have been terrific. But
June arrives and the principal mails out a stunning letter to parents: The
board of directors say they want higher credentials in their teachers, so
they will replace almost all of them in the fall with better qualified ones,
who have at least a Master’s degree. The move won’t improve student
achievement, but that doesn’t matter – the board has decided. The worst news
is the change will cause tuition to double next school year. Mom
calls the principal for an explanation, and the best he can offer is that
he’s sorry, but “tuition rates must necessarily skyrocket.” A
similar scenario is unfolding for Americans who struggle every month to pay
their power bills. President Obama and Congress are scheming to enact an
energy tax, via the so-called “cap-and-trade” legislation now before
lawmakers. Under
this proposal, utilities – who will pass the added costs to customers – will
pay inflated rates to burn fossil fuels (mostly coal) to generate power. The
stated goal is to limit the amount of coal combustion byproduct - the carbon
dioxide emissions that are said to spur global warming. “Under
my plan of a cap-and-trade system,” then-Democratic presidential candidate
Obama told the San Francisco Chronicle in January 2008, “electricity rates
would necessarily skyrocket.” The
scenario is similar to that of the hypothetical school’s: Elected leaders
(influenced by environmental pressure groups) say we must “improve” our
sources of generating electric power. The “upgrade” trades coal and oil for
wind and solar energy. But there is no change in the delivered product
(electricity) or in an averted catastrophe, just like the “new and improved”
teachers would not enhance educational results. This
is because global warming is an imaginary crisis. The telltale indicator is
that alarmists have changed their lingo from “global warming” to “climate
change.” Among the reasons for their vocabulary swap: There has been no net
warming since 1997 (despite a continued rise in CO2 emissions); a growing
number of qualified scientists have abandoned the panic agenda as they saw
computer predictions fail; and new phenomena were observed, like historic
cold temperatures and record ice extent in the Antarctic the last two
winters. Changing our power resource mix would not affect anything temperature-wise.”
Washington Examiner April 2009 YOU’RE PAYING TO RAISE YOUR OWN
UTILITY BILL: “U.S.
electrical grid gets $3.4 billion jolt of stimulus funding: President
Obama stepped up his promotion of the job-creating potential of the $787
billion economic stimulus package Tuesday, announcing $3.4 billion in grants
to improve the nation's electrical grid. The
federal money will pay for "smart meters," updated transformers and
other devices to make the transmission of power more efficient and reliable. "There's
something big happening in America in terms of creating a clean-energy
economy," he said.” Washington Post,
October 28, 2009 So, my guess is – your utility bill will “necessarily
skyrocket” as President Obama promised it would and you can thank your local
environmentalist for that happening. © Bill Wink

Agenda 21 is not the “Bill of Rights”.
It is not “The Declaration of Independence”. And it is not the “U.S. Constitution”. It has never been decided on by the
American people that “Agenda 21” should be our new bible. Our guiding light into the 21st
century. It is being pushed on us by a
bunch of self righteous elitist like Nancy Pelosi. It empowers those who agree and indoctrinates
those who do not, and you are going to think you are having a bad dream when
it comes into your home. |
